Werner and Marjolein Geven, professional riders and trainers based at Poplar Place Farm in Georgia, had long been searching for their daughter Tessa’s next perfect pony without success when a friend told them of a nice Connemara in need of a good home. The very same day they drove to meet him and instantly knew he was the one.

Fifinella GCF

A popular phrase notes that “everything’s bigger in Texas,” and one could say that also applies to Fifinella GCF. The 15-1-hand Connemara/Hanoverian cross mare may have appeared almost diminutive next to her huge Warmblood competitors, but in the Second Level Adult Amateur Championship she proved that size doesn’t matter, carrying her owner/rider Bonnie Canter of Houston, Texas (Region 9) to an impressive score of 72.317% and victory in the class of 30.

Region III 30th Anniversary Show

Lexington, Va:  The Region III 30th anniversary show went off without a hitch.  Held the weekend of August 27 at the Virginia Horse Center, there was something for everyone.  There were in-hand classes, flat classes, jumping classes, dressage including a 6-person quadrille and a pas-de-deux, short stirrup, long stirrup, trail, Mountain and Moorland, a costume class, and the great egg and spoon challenge.

Who are the Four Leaf Clovers?

Tryon, NC: You might be hearing a lot about the Four Leaf Clovers in the next couple of weeks, they are going to be SO famous (hope springs eternal!), so who are they?  The “Clovers”  are an adult amateur team that will be competing at Training Level at the American Eventing Championships (AEC’s) in Tryon, NC on Sept 1-5, 2016….and they are ALL purebred Connemaras!

JEF Sir Lancelot offspring places 12th at US Pony Finals

A JEF Sir Lancelot offspring has excelled at the US Pony Finals for the second year in a row.  In August Happy Feet (aka Timon) placed 12th overall in the Large Green Pony division. Last year Lance’s daughter Radiance placed 12th overall in the Medium Regular Pony division.

A Tale Of One Tough Pony

Truckee, CA:   Donna Huntsman has sent the following  article about the first Connemara to finish the Tevis since Doc Molton used to ride her purebred,   Springledge Irish Whiskey,  in that famous ride a quarter of a century or so ago.  Donna says, “ When my endurance enthusiast friend asked me if I had seen that a Connemara cross pony was entered in this year’s Tevis Cup I was intrigued to say the least.  I eagerly opened the link and perused the breed column of the competitors listed and sure enough amongst the predominately listed Arabs and Arab crosses, there she was; #25, Sacha Egdell from Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada, riding M&M’s Gabriella (Gabby), a 14.3 bay Connemara X mare.

Region I 50th Annual Connemara Pony Breed Show Celebration

Woodstock, VT:  On the weekend of July 22, Region I of the ACPS held a grand celebration in honor of its 50th annual Connemara Pony Breed Show.  And grand it was!!  Held at the Green Mountain Horse Association’s beautiful show grounds in South Woodstock, the celebration began on Friday with Connemara Pony inspections and public discussion of the ponies’ good and bad points. The inspections were followed by an outdoor barbeque and a talk by Caroline Nesbitt about the history of Connemaras in Region I.  Saturday morning the in-hand classes were held, judged by Tom MacLochlainn, President of the Connemara Pony Breeders Society in Ireland.

Thurman Farm Ponies were Champion & Reserve Champion at Upperville

It was a great turnout at Upperville Colt & Horse show this year. Sunny, hot, and windy our judge hard at work was Debby Howell of Middleburg, VA. Lots of ponies competed along with supporters, family, friends, and fans making a great crowd! Thurman Sileach PB Mare by Rattle N’ Snap Laddie Boy out of Thurman Keepsake owned by Barbara Byrd  & shown by Mary McMillen took Champion.
