Kynynmont Gunsmoke’s Gideon is on a roll! After winning the 4th level, test 3 class at Dressage at Devon the first weekend of October, Gideon went on to win the 2015 Championship honors at 4th Level Open this past weekend at Region 1 Dressage Championships held in Lexington, Virginia. Having also received a qualifying score at Prix St. Georges at Region 1 Championships, Gideon will move on to compete at the U.S. Dressage Finals in Lexington, Kentucky the first weekend of November at both 4th Level and Prix St. Georges.
This is an exciting opportunity for Kynynmont Connemaras to showcase one of our great Connemara performers in truly National competition! Gideon is a 7-year-old, ¾ Connemara, by Gunsmoke and out of my halfbred Connemara mare, Kynynmont Tara (Greystone McErill x Irish Rose). He exhibits all the wonderful traits of a Connemara pony that make Connemaras so good for dressage---naturally forward-thinking, extremely willing and very supple, My thanks go to JJ Tate of Team Tate Dressage, who trains and shows Gideon, and to her husband, Richard Malmgren, who takes so many beautiful photos of my ponies, including this one. JJ has done an amazing job of bringing the best out in Gideon, and also supervising the training by her assistant trainer, Kaitlin Blythe, of my now 4th-Level stallion, Kynynmont Cooper O’Grady (*Gunsmoke x Kynynmont Moira), my now 3rd-Level gelding, Kynynmont Ballytobin (Ballywhim Sterling Moss x Greystone Adirondack Roseanna) and my now Intermediaire -B Level mare, Kynynmont Blue Sapphire (Landgate’s Bluebeard x Kynynmont Moira). At the beginning of September, with Kaitlin in the saddle on all three, Cooper won the National Dressage Pony Cup Finals 3rd-Level Open Championship, Toby won the NDPC Second Level Open Championship, Sophie won the NDPC FEI Reserve Championship, and Cooper was also High Score Connemara of the show. What a great show season this has been! I am so happy with the decision I made 23 years ago to breed Connemara ponies. They are the best!
The ponies had another fabulous show with Team Tate Dressage, this time at Region 1 Championships in Lexington, VA. JJ Tate piloted Kynynmont Gunsmoke's Gideon to another big win, making him 2015 Region 1 Champion at 4th Level Open. JJ has done a beautiful job of bringing out the best in Gideon.
Team Tate's Kaitlin Blythe did her usual fabulous job of showing three other Kynynmont ponies. Kynynmont Blue Sapphire, aka Sophie, made her debut at Intermediaire B, finishing first on Friday and second on Saturday. Sophie is a passage machine---it is so fun to see her strut her stuff. Kynynmont Ballytobin (Toby) made his debut at Third Level, with a first, a second and a third. And Kynynmont Cooper O'Grady tried his hand at 4th Level, with a second and a third. Kaitlin has done so much to bring these ponies along.
Thank you so much to JJ and Kaitlin for a magnificent training and showing job with all of them. And thank you to Richard Malmgren for recording their successes with such gorgeous photos!
