Connemara Pony Division accepted for the '07 Upperville Horse Show
Number one on the wish list of many Virginia Connemara Pony owners is a Connemara division at the prestigious Upperville Horse Show. Catherine Mack has just reported that Marilyn Cheek has pulled the rabbit out of the hat there is going to be a small in-hand division for starters this year !!!!!!!!!! Says Catherine, “Tommy Lee Jones is putting us into the prize list and our Connemaras will be judged by an Irish Judge who is credentialed to judge both IDrs and Connemaras…. We will need to come up with some sponsors but I believe Marilyn has inveigled a special rate so we can get our 4 feet in the door in 2007. This means that we HAVE to have a good turn-out in the classes offered. (Yes, there will be at least one class for half-breds). Tomorrow morning, head on out to your field and start picking out your entry right now!”
“The Show is usually held the first week of June. For those of you not from the area, the Upperville Show is the oldest horse show in the USA and is held on the historic show-grounds just to the East of Upperville on RT 50 under some huge old oak trees. The very best horses on the East Coast come to show there every year and the winners of the classes always get an amazing amount of press coverage. It's a very big deal! All we have to do is show up with our ponies and we will be on the way to a great 'PR' opportunity and hopefully some pony showing fun with no organizational duties. Perfect! I will find out the exact day of our classes as soon as Marilyn returns from a big adventure in The Amazon! Showing at Upperville is going to be a big adventure, too. Please plan on joining the fun this June!”

Brooks, GA: Megan Buchanan Harris of Brambleridge Farm reports that Wildwych Cricket attended her first show on January 24th at Big Bear Farm in Pine Mountain, GA. She competed in the Intro Level tests A & B, and received a 2nd and a 1st place respectively. Her scores were both in the 60's and the judge was complementary on her gaits, forwardness and willingness. Megan says, “I was very proud of her, not only because of her test scores and the results, but because she was well behaved and performed well even in a strange new place.” They plan on attending more shows this spring. |
Chicago, IL: Jessie Cohen reports that on 2/27/07 *Cree Lady (Forest View Sparrow x Castletown Girl by Mervyn Kingsmill) had a filly sired by *The Quietman (Moy Hazy Cove x Blathin Chonamara by Cloonisle Cashel). This was the first purebred sired by *The Quietman in America - he has one filly he sired in Ireland - and also the first foal for *Cree Lady. Both ponies are doing well. Jessie also reports that they have just had *The Quietman tested for the Creme Gene by Animal Genetics in FL. and that he is negative for the gene. |
Raymond, Ca: Pat Ashworth of Cobblestone Farm reports that on March 8 they delivered a bay colt foal by MGRM Brigadoon out of Loughin's Island Mist (*Kilfenora Windy Isles X Elphin April Showers [by Maplehurst Michael MacDaire]. |
Alachua, Fl: Foals are popping out all over! Balmullo Farm reports that Elphin Chickadee produced a dun filly by *Gunsmoke (Smokey Duncan X Brown Lady [by Abbeyleix Owen]) on March 6. The filly has a perfect C (for Connemara?) on her forehead and will be called Balmullo’s Dixie Chick. |
