Clifden, Ire. A large contingent of ACPS members spent the week in Ireland for the annual super bowl of Connemara breeding, the Clifden Show, held each year on the third Thursday of August in the heart of Connemara. Hundreds of ponies and thousands of people converge in the tiny town to see who will capture the grand prize…..as with all good super bowls, there was a parade before the event…….Sabine Droege from Germany drove a 4-in-hand carrying the queen of the show. Karen Vicencio, an ACPS IC, drove the US bred Brannigan (X Balius Derring Do) carrying Susan Rinehart, and the stallion Blue Smokey (brother of the US’s Gunsmoke) pulled a carriage carrying John Tennant.

The Supreme Champion of the Clifden Show 2006 was Dolan Mick who is owned by Paddy Connolly from Roundstone in Co Galway. The pony’s Sire is Cloonisle Cashel and Dam is Lor Ruadh the 4th. The Champion Ridden Pony was Cashelbay Prince (I Love You Melody X Coosheen Pheasant), bred and owned by Mr Robert Fallon, Cashel Bay Connemara Pony Stud Cashel, Connemara Co. Galway. Complete results can be found at the Connemara Pony Breeder’s Society website.

Woodstock Vt. Gary Bolger’s stallion, *Coral Bobby (Coral Dun x Sandy Dawn) of Waterfield Farm, was the grand champion at this years region 1 show for the second straight year.

St. Louis, Mo. A large group of both humans and animals greeted the ACPS’ one man traveling dog and pony show when Michelle Haas returned home from her travels to the 50th Celebration and THEN to the Show in Woodstock with three ponies and her trusted companion Mardi (an Australian cattle dog). Michelle travels to Connemara shows all over the country where she loves showing Tre Awain Dare to Dream, Balmullo’s Gallagher, and this year their offspring, Erin Terra’s Dream Believer. Dream Believer was the grand champion yearling in Virginia and reserve youngstock champion in Woodstock. Dare to Dream was the Champion Working Hunter in Woodstock where Gallagher was third in the stallion class and won the 3 ft Hunter class.

Alachua, Fl. The foal season had three late entries in Florida, a colt foal (Ballencrief Brogan X Balmullo’s Matilda) owned by Kathy Bridges; a filly, Balmullo’s Isabelle ( Seven Hills Grey Ghost X *Belle Dawn), and a colt, Balmullo’s Catfish (Seven Hills Grey Ghost X Tullymor’s Shandora) owned by Donna Duckworth. Kathy and Donna must like HOT babies.

Middleburg, Va. Two premium mares were added to the ACPS’ roster of outstanding mares at the recent inspection in Virginia. Hohnhorst Milaya and Leekeen Ballerina join the two previously designated Premiums, Coastal Celtic Ceildh and Glenormiston Amelia. Detail;s of these mares will appear in the next American Connemara. Coastal Celtic Ceildh, featured earlier, remains the only US bred pony in the group. This is only the second year during which mares may be nominated for premium status….see Inspections on the ACPS website for more information.
