Ashfield Carna is a grey eight year old Connemara gelding. He was bred in Ireland by Mr Jimmy Jones. His sire is Granard Storm and his dam is Atlantic Surf. He is a full brother to Irish show jumping stallion, Ashfield Festy.
He has competed successfully eventing for the past two years with his rider, Wendy Harris. In 1994, when he was only six years old, he was chosen as reserve for the Irish Pony Three Day Event Team and in 1995 he was a member of the Irish team who competed in Germany. Ashfield Carna was placed ninth after the dressage achieving the best mark an Irish pony has ever achieved and the best placing an Irish pony and rider combination has ever achieved. This was outstanding when one considers he was only seven years old and the youngest pony in the competition. He continued his amazing performance with a superb cross country clear but unfortunately had to be withdrawn from the show jumping due to an injury sustained the previous day.
In both 1994 and 1995 Ashfield Carna travelled to Bradwall in England as part of the Irish team. He has been placed in numerous events and dressage competitions. His most recent big success was at the International Pony Championships in County Cork, Ireland in October 1995. He was placed second only to a previous European gold medalist in an event consisting of forty five of Britain's, France's, and Ireland's top pony competitors.
Ashfield Carna is an exceptionally talented Connemara with three outstanding phases in three day eventing. He has made his country proud and will continue to do so for many years to come as he is still only a youngster.
