Allentown, PA: The ACPS held its annual meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn in Allentown on the weekend of October 2-4. On Friday, because of inclement weather, indoor seminars were held instead of the planned outdoor clinics. There was a seminar on use of social media for promoting the breed by Melanie Trimper and Heather Magnan, a very entertaining talk by Mike Keane of Ireland and Florida on showing the young pony, and one on using your body to tell your horse what you want by event rider, Kim Walnes, who rode the legendary Grey Goose in Europe and the USA, earning the bronze medal at the World 3-Day Event Championships in Luhmuhlan, Germany, and winning the Rolex 3-Day Event in 1982.
Saturday was taken up with the Board of Governors meeting followed by the annual meeting of all members. New officers were elected at the end of the day, with Deb Norman agreeing to serve as president for another year. After the meetings the awards banquet was held. Notable winners were: Aladdin’s Denver (Aladdin X Tre Awain Cricket Song), Toureen Laddie Trophy; *Hayselden Persephone (Hayselden Bacchus X Cloonisle Coral Strand), Broodmare Award; Tre Awain Goldsmith (Tre Awain Ginger Blue X Tre Awain Golden Lily), An Tostal Trophy. The Purebred Connemara of the Year was WH Top Gun (*Gunsmoke X Ballywhim Candace), while the Half-bred Connemara of the Year was Sparrow’s Nio (Grange Finn Sparrow X TB), both fabulous eventers. The prestigious Crestwood Award for service to the Society went to hard-working Anne Moe, who, amoung other duties, served for years as Secretary for the Region III show and is now the Membership Chair.
On Sunday a visit to Nicole Haas Perrin’s farm and stallion station was enjoyed by many of the meeting participants and there were many oohs and aahs regarding her three stallions. Lastly was a visit to see one of the new Connemara Sport Horse registry stallions, Gideon Goodheart, owned by Kim Walnes.
