2020 AGM/BOG Meeting Postponed

Regretfully, but for the safety of our members, the ACPS has decided to postpone the Annual Meeting. The new dates are September 23-26, 2021.

Please make a note of the change. The meeting will be better than ever in Lexington, KY! The BOG will still meet via a virtual call so that the business of the ACPS can continue smoothly. Details will be forthcoming. Stay safe everyone and hydrate if you are experiencing this heatwave!

UPDATE: It has been decided that the 2020 ACPS Hall of Fame Awards will not be awarded in 2020. The Awards will resume in 2021 with great enthusiasm and expectation. Please familiarize yourself with the Hall of Fame, Connemara of the Year, Halfbred Connemara of the Year award criteria and nomination process. You can also review past winners of each award. It would be wonderful to have many ponies nominated for the 2021 award year and make next year's Annual Meeting and Awards gala the BEST ever.

Breyerfest Interview with VBF WH Topgun

Published with permission from

Ireland’s only native breed, the Connemara Pony was developed from hardy stock that had to not only survive, but thrive in Western Ireland’s harsh terrain. These intelligent ponies are compact without bulk, have a long stride for their height, and a natural jumping ability that has earned them a place in hunter, jumper, and eventing competitions.

One such example is the 2004 Connemara stallion, W.H. Topgun. A striking buckskin, he competed in eventing at the Preliminary level with his then-trainer Elliott Blackmon in the saddle for owners Jim & Nancy Kilcrease. Currently focusing on dressage, Topgun is also siring future athletes and passing along his friendly disposition and work ethic to the next generation.

In addition to being the American Connemara Pony Society’s (ACPS) Region IV Champion several times, Topgun has also been the ACPS Purebred Connemara of the Year, and received the US Equestrian Federation’s Horse of the Year Award in the Eventing Connemara division!

USEF COVID-19 Good Practices

As States start opening, we are wondering what will become of this riding and competing season. Yesterday, US Equestrian / USEF hosted an online meeting containing information and answering questions about what to expect at competitions. The meeting contains all aspects of good practices, even working around our barns. Everyone’s safety is a high priority, with that in mind to be successful we must follow all guidelines. A replay of yesterday’s meeting is available on USEF’s site. Please see the below Webinar link to watch.

Sky Miles Gets Her Swan Song At U.S. Pony Jumper National Championships

Lexington, Ky.—Aug. 10

After eight years of competing at USEF Pony Finals, Sky Miles is ending her career with a bang.

She didn’t touch a fence all weekend across four rounds of the U.S. Pony Jumper National Championship with Hallie Rush to earn individual gold today in her last competition before retiring to be bred.

There was a four-way tie for silver in tonight’s individual final, and in the end, overnight leader Devi Ferreira and Silver Charm took home that medal after a rail down in the first round. Her winning Zone 10 teammate Tabitha Okitsu and Spoot De La Jourlais took bronze.
